10 reasons to hate being called Emily

The other day I read a blog post about the pains of being called 'Hannah', but I think the real pain is being called 'Emily'. Here's a list of difficulties girls called Emily have to deal with:

1. No one ever comes up with nice rhyming nicknames for Emily, so you end up with names like..
Emily Smemily
Emily Bemily
EmBem..

When they could call you Emily Heavenly, that's kinda cute.. kinda.

2. Or how about the fact that our name can be made into various nicknames:
Em,
Ems,
Emz,
Emmy,
Emil,
or as one of the guys from my work like to call me.. 'M' - as if I'm cool enough to be James Bond's boss.

Apparently,
Mily,
Ily,
Lee,
Mils &
Mi are also nicknames for Emily but no one has ever even tried to call me any of them.

3. How about the fact that we probably only like one of the nicknames mentioned.

4. OR how about that people just assume that they can give you any of the above nicknames.

5. THERE ARE SO MANY OF US. Like SO MANY. Which means that any time there is a register called there's always around 5 other Emily's on the register.

6. Sometimes when people call your name it takes a minute for you to figure out if they're talking to you.

7. It's basically just the English version of Amelia...

8. It's not unique in any shape, size or form.

9. In an attempt to make Emily a unique name people start trying to spell it differently..
Emma-Lee,
Emile.
^^Neither are acceptable.

10. There are multiple famous Emilys:
Emily Osment,
Emily Vancamp,
Emily Deschannel,
Emily Blunt etc, etc.

Basically, being an Emily makes us common. But I like to think it's what you make of yourself and for your name that counts! So come on fellow Emilys, lets make Emily a great name!
